At a press conference in parliament, André Ventura confirmed the news from the Public newspaper that he was ordered to pay a fine imposed by the Equality and Against Racial Discrimination Commission, of 3,370 euros, for ethnic discrimination in the form of harassment.
“Needless to say, I will not pay any of these fines, first because I recognize that this authority has no authority to subvert the rule of law. and limit the freedom of expression of a citizen, a deputy of the nation and a political leader. Therefore, I am very sorry that we have reached this point, ”he replied.
The Chega leader and presidential candidate later indicated that “a few weeks ago” it was known that he had also been fined in another process related to comments he had made. “
“Now we have another process. It is shameful what we are seeing in Portugal. We are facing a persecution of a political leader for his freedom of expression ”, added.
