António Lacerda Sales assumes that the Government is taking all measures to avoid a new confinement in Portugal. At the press conference held this Monday, October 19, the Undersecretary of State and Health was asked if the containment and curfew measures in other countries could be applied in Portugal.

“Each country has used its strategy, we are learning from each other. Obviously we are at all costs to avoid closure because we cannot be closed all winter. We take gradual measures that aim to live with the virus and the possible normality in our collective experience, ”he says.

Lacerda Sales emphasizes that the population is not guaranteed to be confined if it manages to maintain social distance and individual behavior. “This label of social behavior is a requirement not only in our work environment, but also in the family,” he emphasizes.

The Undersecretary of State and Health also spoke about the second phase of vaccination against seasonal influenza that began this Monday. “We bought two million vaccines, 34% more than last year. We diversify the vaccination points, there will be 200 thousand vaccines of the SNS for administration and community pharmacies throughout the country, ”he emphasizes.

The vaccination program for people over 65 years of age and with health problems has so far had 70% adherence at the national level by community pharmacies, guaranteeing coverage in 256 regions, around 92% at the national level.

“This program is intended to be dynamic and involve as many pharmacies as possible. 10,000 doses were made available to pharmacists in community pharmacies during the first week of vaccination. We believe that the process will go well ”, emphasizes Lacerda Sales.
