Volkswagen or Voltswagen? It’s marketing stupid

Around 3:00 p.m. this Tuesday (Lisbon time) the news came out that the The US unit of German construction company Volkswagen AG confirmed the renaming of its US operations to “Voltswagen of America,” in a clear allusion to the company’s new approach to building electric vehicles.

Around 9:00 p.m., a statement appears that says that, after all, it was all a marketing maneuver with the aim of drawing attention to the company’s electric vehicle plans in USA.

The Reuters agency guarantees that three sources of the German brand have confirmed it but, in fact, however, the news of the change was already everywhere.

The strangest thing, according to some sources, is that, in that period of almost four hours, no one from the parent company of the German carmaker approached the public to clarify what was happening.

Correct and safe is that Scott Keogh, executive chairman of Voltswagen of America, was even quoted by Reuters as saying that, “although we are changing our K to a T, what we have not changed is the commitment of this brand to make the best cars.”
