Vitória Futebol Clube today chooses a new president and a new course among the three lists of candidates who want to assume the leadership of the Sadino emblem. Founded on November 10, 1910, the club that is not assumed as “Big”, but as “Huge”, perhaps attends the most important elections in its centenary of history.
Fallen in the Portuguese Championship, the dispute for the Vitória de Setúbal chair awakened the will of Vítor Hugo Valente, former president, “with more than 15 years of leadership”, who helped solve “financial problems from different directions” (Paulo Rodrigues), the first candidate to appear, a former soccer referee and businessman, with knowledge of the “club like few others”, according to Nuno Soares.
Unanimous in qualifying these elections as the most important of the club after a “descent beyond hell”, everyone called with an inverted hand to put Setúbal in his rightful place: the main echelon of Portuguese football. A promotion to the Liga NOS, carried out in the field, or administratively through legal recourse in which everyone places their faith.
The sale of the capital of SAD is on the table in all the lists, as well as the appointments with former partners and with the city, a relationship that has languished in recent years.
THE SAPO24 spoke with the three candidates.
Paulo Rodrigues: “I appeal to members to make a difference”
Paulo Rodrigues, partner nº6494, List B, presents himself as someone who has always helped the club financially. “I was already helping Vitória with other presidents. From Paulo Gomes to Fernando Oliveira ”, he recalls at the beginning of the conversation. “The financial issue is a chronic problem. When it came to joining the League, he always helped the club find funding. I have always helped economic problems from different directions ”, reinforces the first candidate who stands up for the vote.
After assuming himself as an invisible hand, he criticizes current amateurism and acknowledges that the time has come to “assume the candidacy”, especially at a time when the Setúbal institution “needs more help”.
If chosen, he will immediately think of the Portuguese Championship, but his sights are set on returning to the First League. “It can be through appeal and here we have one of the best lawyers (Luis Miguel Henrique, Jorge Jesús’ lawyer) to help us,” he said. “Setubalenses and Portuguese want Vitória na I Liga”.
Based on the acronym, “Truth. Job. Future “, the businessman promises to recover the number of” about 25 thousand “associates of Sadino. “We call on members and members to come and introduce themselves. They can make a difference, they can say no to previous bad management ”, he challenges. “We want to have partners with a club. Vítor Hugo Valente: “The club needs an investor”

Investment is the keyword. “In January, I presented an investor with Luís Campos and the partners did not want to. Now it is more urgent. The club needs an investor ”, he warns. “Whoever wants to end SAD, ends the club,” he warns.
On the criticism of investors is very clear. “The idea that investors appear to get rich … they already have to be rich,” he shoots. “Where we are, we need 3 million euros. The return is zero. The following year, if we go up, we could have 600 thousand euros of sponsorships. Once in the first division, it takes many years to recover the investment ”, anticipates the candidate for List A.
Vítor Hugo Valente takes the slogan of the campaign – “A victory with a future, a victory for the first time” – and reiterates his wish for a “victory for the first time for SAD and for the club”. The issue of most of the sale of SAD capital is a key issue for the former president, now a candidate. “Who is the one who puts money if it is not for the majority of the SAD?”, He asks.
Nuno Soares: “Setúbal fell beyond hell”
He was there to support others, but he ended up moving forward. Nuno Soares tried to “gather interests”, but there was no face and, therefore, heads List C “Soul and Future”.
“I was never a leader or a candidate, but I know Vitória like few others,” he concludes. “People do not see themselves in those who have already lost elections and in others who may have knowledge, but who do not know Vitória as I do,” he reinforces.
The world of soccer is no stranger to the latest candidate to come up with a list. “I was a soccer referee and FIFA businessman. I lived on both sides ”, he describes. “I have already helped Vitória, but never as a business.”
For the sadino club, Nuno Soares considers that “training with the pillar of the club is a priority. You have to have conditions that you don’t have now ”.
He says he has “concrete solutions for the immediate future, structured and well founded.” A solution that involves returning to the place you descended from. “Setúbal fell beyond hell,” he laments. “We want to go back to the first division, be it for administration or sports. They are prepared for both scenarios ”, anticipates the former referee.
“We have funders and partners for SAD. Different investors who want different situations. We have both ”, he guarantees. “Nobody seriously enters without being audited. And any solution only passes through the General Assembly ”, he concludes.
