Viana do Castelo, September 19, 2020 (Ecclesia) – The funerals of D. Anacleto Oliveira, bishop of Viana do Castelo, are scheduled for Tuesday, September 22, following the prescribed sanitary regulations, as announced by the diocese.

According to the statement sent today to the ECCLESIA Agency, on “Monday night, the Cathedral will receive the remains of D. Anacleto, a reception that will be solemnized by means of the canonical celebration of the hour of the Compline, after which the church will close respectively ”.

On Tuesday, September 22, in the morning, the Church will be open to the faithful.

“It will be destined to the free and spontaneous prayer of the faithful who, according to a controlled entry and conditioned to the available space, will be able to gather in supplication and thanksgiving for the remains of D. Anacleto Oliveira”, it can be read.

At 3 pm a “funeral mass is celebrated, presided over by Archbishop Jorge Ortiga de Braga, with the presence of the rest of the bishops belonging to the Portuguese Episcopal Conference, the presbytery of the diocese of Viana do Castelo and the representatives of the different ecclesial movements, as well as civil and military authorities, according to the places available and identified within the Cathedral ”.

On Wednesday, starting at 10 am, at the “Sé Catedral de Leiria, you will be in combustion chamber until 3 p.m., at the end of which the remains will be buried in the cemetery of Cortes, birthplace of D. Anacleto Oliveira ”.

In that note, a request is made to all diocesans so that everything goes “with the greatest serenity and responsibility”, a way of dignifying the encouragement of the presence of D. Anacleto in the lands of Alto Miño, for 10 years.

D. Anacleto Oliveira was born on July 17, 1946 in the parish of Cortes, in Leiria, and was ordained a priest on August 15, 1970; After ordination, he studied Sacred Scripture in Rome and Germany, where he was chaplain to a Portuguese community for 10 years.

Appointed bishop to help Lisbon in 2005 by Pope John Paul II, the episcopal ordination of D. Anacleto Oliveira took place in the Sanctuary of Fátima on April 24 of that year, presided over by D. Serafim Ferreira e Silva, then bishop of the Diocese of Leiria-Fátima.

On June 11, 2010, D. Anacleto Oliveira was appointed by Benedict XVI as Bishop of Viana do Castelo, fourth bishop of the Alto Minho diocese, created by Pope Paul VI in 1977.

At the Portuguese Episcopal Conference, the Bishop of Viana do Castelo presided over the Commission for Liturgy and Episcopal Spirituality and the Commission for Bible Translation.

In August, D. Anacleto Oliveira had completed 10 years of bishop of Viana do Castelo and 50 years of priestly ordination.
