Ventura rejects agreement with PSD in the Azores: “It does not govern enough with the parties of the system”

The center-right may have won the majority of terms in the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of the Azores (ALRAA), but there will be no new version of “contraption” in the archipelago. To have a majority led by the PSD, the green light from Chega would be needed and, in a statement to Expresso, André Ventura dismisses this hypothesis. “We are not totally available for that, totally unavailable to get along with the parties of the system,” he says.

For Expresso, the top leader of Chega (who managed to elect two deputies to the Azores parliament) places the weight of the government in the hands of Vasco Cordeiro, even after the Socialists have lost the absolute majority. “It is the PS that has to find solutions to govern,” reinforces Ventura, who bases the position stating that his party “does not trust socialists or social democrats.”

In the elections this Sunday, Chega obtained 5.06% of the votes, managing to elect two deputies. José Manuel Bolieiro, leader of PSD-Açores, admitted to having spoken from the right – he said he would be “very happy to talk to everyone” – but, given Ventura’s position, a center-right majority is impossible.
