Of the 70,200 doses that arrived this Monday, more than 9,800 are for professionals at the forefront of the fight against covid. On the first day, 4828 were inoculated.

The vaccine for covid-19 begins this Tuesday to be administered to professionals from more than 39 hospital units, in addition to those who began to receive it on Sunday, the Ministry of Health informed JN. Minister Marta Temido had already advanced that only “some specialized hospitals that do not receive covid patients” would be left out of this new stage.

The guardianship also revealed that 14% (about 9,800) of the 70,200 doses that arrived in the country this Monday will be distributed by groups of health centers for the vaccination of their professionals as well. But the number was not released. The JN knows that the vaccination of doctors, nurses and operational assistants begins this Tuesday in the health centers of the Northern Regional Health Administration.

At the Centro Hospitalar do Tâmega e Sousa, which includes the Amarante and Penafiel hospitals, the latter of the most affected by the second wave of the pandemic, 600 doses were delivered (470 for Penafiel and 130 for Amarante). 1,195 doses were sent to Hospital Hospital de Gaia / Espinho between Tuesday and Wednesday. At the Braga Hospital, 660 vaccines will also be administered in two days.

In the Lisbon and Tagus Valley Region, the Beatriz Ângelo de Loures Hospitals and the García de Orta de Almada Hospitals will distribute 455 vaccines and about 500, respectively.

Second doses

The figures may seem small, compared to the total received this Monday, but Marta Temido had already said on Sunday that in this shipment the vaccines needed to give the second dose in January to professionals vaccinated in December. .

After the governor visited the hospitals of Porto (São João and Santo António) and Coimbra on Sunday, this Monday the vaccination continued at the Curry Cabral (Central Lisbon) and Santa Maria (North Lisbon) hospitals.

According to Marta Temido, on the first day of this operation the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was delivered to 4,828 health professionals. As of Monday, none of these had reported relevant side effects, he said.

The guardianship’s forecasts point to the arrival of 79,950 doses in each of the four weeks of January. Completing the more than 319 thousand announced for the first month of 2021.

Preventive measures

In Curry Cabral, the director of the infectious diseases service, Fernando Maltez, was one of those who received the vaccine in the presence of the minister. The expert, who deals directly with covid-19, considers that this is “the first step towards recovering from a pandemic that has affected our lives in all aspects.” But he asked that prevention measures continue to be applied until the population is immunized.

Patients at risk

The Health Ministry predicts that patients at risk identified for the first phase will begin receiving the vaccine in February. According to the vaccination plan, these are people 50 years of age or older with heart failure, coronary artery disease, kidney disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or chronic respiratory disease. It is estimated that there are 400 thousand patients.

Summoned by SMS

These patients, like the rest of the users covered in the second and third phases, will be contacted by the health centers by SMS.

Private hospitals

Marta Temido guaranteed that all health professionals are covered. And that a survey will be done so that the doses are sent. The minister recalled that many accumulate functions in the SNS with other sectors and that is why they receive the vaccine earlier.
