United States: Trump refuses to participate in virtual debate with Biden

The news was advanced by the American news agency Associated Press (AP) and realized that the candidates will conduct the debate “remotely”, from “separate places”, while both the moderator and the participants will be in Miami, as stated originally planned.

Axios had already pointed out that despite this decision, it was not yet clear whether the campaigns of both candidates, especially Trump’s, were in agreement with these terms. And shortly after the news broke, Trump even warned that he was “not going to waste time” on virtual debates.

“I will not waste my time in a virtual debate. A debate is not that at all. It is ridiculous,” Trump said in an interview with Fox Business, cited by Axios.

Trump has been infected with the new coronavirus since last week and on Tuesday said via Twitter that he was eager to meet Biden at the Miami debate.

“It will be fantastic,” Donald Trump said in the message.

Biden said the debate should not take place “as long as the president is diagnosed as positive.”

The Democratic candidate at the time told reporters during a Pennsylvania campaign that he expected a debate with Donald Trump, but that “strict rules” would be needed.

Trump was diagnosed after medical tests conducted last Thursday, 48 hours after the debate with Joe Biden in Cleveland.

Despite the distance of ten meters between the two during the televised debate, the situation forced Joe Biden to undergo a series of medical tests before resuming the election campaign.

Donald Trump left the Military Hospital where he was admitted on Monday, before he was cured, and doctors avoided giving more details about the president’s state of health.

Isolation of people who experience moderate symptoms of SARS CoV-2 should last for at least 10 days, according to the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
