The UK is offering European Union citizens residing in the country incentives to leave the country early to apply for residency regularization after Brexit is confirmed, according to “The Guardian.”

The Boris Johnson executive offers airfare and compensation of up to 2,200 euros for those who decide to leave the country. The UK decided to include members of the European community in the Voluntary Return Plan (PRV), which was aimed mainly at non-EU immigrants who were in an irregular situation.

Currently, two new scenarios have been included, for the cases of people who have asylum but decide to leave and those who are in the asylum process and also decide to return to their country of origin, according to the conditions established in the British government. Program.

One of the unknowns that involved Brexit was the situation of European citizens who lived and worked in the country. The UK has set a June 30 deadline to apply for a status of residence under the so-called European Union Settlement Plan (UESS).

In the agreement signed on the afternoon of Christmas Eve, the European Union and the United Kingdom agreed to end the free movement of people between the two territories. Although visas are not required, the right of Europeans to live and work in the UK has been restricted (and vice versa), so Boris Johnson’s office has put in place a concrete plan to structure applications from community members who wish to continue on British soil.

However, some sectors see the decision as a way of trying to prevent community members from staying in the UK in a context of obstacles to requests from citizens who want to stay in the country.
