Unemployed couples increase almost 20% in September

According to the IEFP, of the total of unemployed married or in common-law union, 12,764 (8.1%) are also registered that their spouse is also registered as unemployed.

The number of couples in which both spouses are registered as unemployed was 6,382 at the end of September, that is, 19.2% more (the equivalent of 1,030 couples) than in the same month, but 1.1% less. (74 couples) compared to the previous month.

Couples in this situation of double unemployment are entitled to a 10% increase in the amount of unemployment benefit they are receiving, when they have dependents.

The IEFP began to disseminate statistical information on couples with both elements unemployed in November 2010, when 2,862 of these situations were registered.

According to the IEFP, at the end of September, the number of unemployed registered in employment centers increased by 36.1% in September year-on-year and by 0.2% compared to August.
