According to the BBC, the new legal limit will prohibit groups of more than six people from meeting socially, indoors or outdoors.

However, the rule does not apply to organized schools, workplaces, weddings, funerals, and team sports.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson will release more details on Wednesday. “We need to act now to prevent the virus from spreading. Therefore, we are simplifying and strengthening the rules of social contact, making them easier to understand,” he said.

“It is absolutely essential that people now follow these rules and remember the basics: wash their hands, wear a mask, stay away from other people and get tested for symptoms,” he said.

Boris Johnson also said that any group of seven or more people gathered anywhere “is in danger of being dispersed by the police or fined for non-compliance.” Those who violate the rule risk a fine of 110 euros, which could reach 3,527 euros.
