UEFA decides to open an investigation into Paris Saint-Germain-Basaksehir

UEFA has decided, following the incident in the football Champions League match between Paris Saint-Germain and Basaksehir, that it will resume on Wednesday with a new referee team.

“Following the incident in tonight’s Champions League game between Paris Saint-Germain FC (PSG) and Istanbul Basaksehir FK, UEFA has exceptionally decided, after negotiating with the two clubs, that the remaining minutes of the match will be played. The match, on the sixth day of the Champions League group stage, was interrupted today by an alleged racist insult by the fourth official to a member of the Turkish coaching staff.

The incident occurred in the 14th minute of the match, when the fourth official, Romanian Sebastian Costantin Coltescu, instructed the referee, his compatriot Ovidiu Hategan, to expel Basaksehir’s assistant coach, Pierre Webo, who complained that the referee team he used the expression ‘black’, refusing to leave the field and asking: “Where is the ‘black’? (Where is the ‘black’)”.

After several minutes, the squad and the players of the Turkish team, followed by those of PSG, decided to leave the pitch at a time when the match was tied 0-0.
