Two schools in Braga with 91 students and 15 teachers in isolation

The pandemic made insignificant the already reduced space of the Family and Juvenile Court of Braga. The regulations of the health authorities forced the creation of an isolation room, which replaced that of the lawyers. That now they have to go out to the street or to the cafe, to try to reach an agreement in cases that involve the protection of minors.

“The Ministry of Justice should be ashamed and immediately seek a new space. This has no conditions, ”João O Maghohã, a lawyer from Braga, told O MINHO.

The lawyer says that, days ago, to try to reach an agreement on the guardianship of a minor, he had to go out to talk with his colleague on the other side. “It’s not just me. A few days ago, another lawyer had to go outside the building, in the rain, to discuss another case, “he lamented, noting that the cases of minors are” of great delicacy and social impact.

The smallness of the Court, which occupies two floors of a narrow building in Campo da Vinha, requires – he adds – that only six people can enter, with waiting lines and lost time: “going to the Juvenile Court is a difficult task.”

Contacted by the way by O MINHO, the superior judge of the district’s judicial districts, Artur Dionísio Oliveira, recognizes the validity of the lawyers’ complaints: “In fact, even before this crisis, people were jostling in the small lobby of the Secretary. This Court is the most complicated of the 16 that exist in the region ”.

The magistrate says that he had to apply the Plan for the Dismantling of the Local Health Authority, with a view to safeguarding the health of its officials and the three judges of the Court, as well as those who sue it as lawyers and witnesses.

Without wanting to blame the Ministry, Artur Dionísio Oliveira says that, for years, he has been asking for another space, including the Municipality, having presented solutions that never worked.

Administrative also meager

As far as the MINHO knows, the expansion of the Palace of Justice is the solution on the Government table, in the medium and long term. But there is still no architectural design.

Furthermore, the Administrative and Tax Court suffers from the same problem: it has two small courtrooms and no offices. There will be a trial with eight lawyers in Amares. And others are programmed for Famalicão’s.
