Two new cases of Covid-19 and two recoveries in the Azores

The case detected on Graciosa Island refers to a 25-year-old male, non-resident, coming from an air connection with the mainland, who underwent the SARS-CoV-2 screening test before embarking for the region. it was negative and the test performed after the sixth day was positive.

The case diagnosed on the island of Faial corresponds to a 20-year-old male, resident in the Region, who underwent a SARS-CoV-2 virus screening test for hospitalization purposes, having obtained a positive result.

It is also reported that he remained in isolation at Hospital da Horta, pending the result of the detection test.

The cases present a stable clinical situation, and the procedures defined for the confirmed case, tests and surveillance of close contacts have already been taken care of by the Municipal Delegation of Health, as well as all those inherent to the deepening of the epidemiological investigation.

Two recoveries were registered, corresponding to a 24-year-old man on the island of Terceira and a 54-year-old woman on the island of São Miguel, bringing the number of cases recovered to 187 on the island. Region.

It is also reported that an active positive case in São Miguel, corresponding to a 23-year-old man, left the Region despite the authorities, bound for another European country.

The contacts and procedures established for the follow-up of this case outside the Region were attended by the Municipal Health Authority.

Thus, so far, 309 cases of infection by the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which causes the COVID-19 disease, have been detected in the Region, with 72 currently active positive cases, of which 44 on the island of São Miguel, 11 on Terceira Island, five on Graciosa Island, five on Pico Island, four on Faial Island, one on São Jorge Island and two on Santa María Island.

Measures to prevent and contain a pandemic must be maintained and reinforced, whenever possible, by citizens and organizations from the public, private and social sectors.

The Regional Health Authority reiterates the need to comply with all the recommendations already made public in this regard, especially that, in case of symptoms, do not look for a Hospital or Health Unit, but call the Azores Health Line – 808 24 60 24.
