More than two million kangaroos are slaughtered each year for the production of sports shoes. The activists reveal that major sports brands use “K leather” in their products, and beg the manufacturers’ customers to stop buying such materials.
The Australian Kangaroo Society says female kangaroo are shot or beaten, resulting in the death of about 400,000 young.
Wayne Pacelle, who belongs to the ‘Center for a Humane Economy’, points out that “entire families of kangaroos are killed overnight to be sold to the most well-known sports shoe brands.”
The head of research for the vegetarian charity ‘Long live!’, Lex Rigby, reveals that “the kangaroo meat industry is one of the most brutal and violent in the world”, leaving the call for consumers to avoid “any footwear labeled with K “leather.
These activists also estimate that five million animals died in the 2020 fires and that the species is threatened.
Contacted by the British newspaper, Nike said it works with suppliers to buy processed and “human” hides; Adidas commented that it opposes “killing kangaroos in an inhumane or cruel way.”
