US President Donald Trump said on Sunday he was now “immune” to COVID-19, a day after his doctor said there was no longer a risk of transmitting the virus.

“It seems I’m immune, I don’t know, maybe for a long time, maybe a little bit, maybe a lifetime. Nobody really knows, but I’m immune,” he said in a telephone interview with Fox News.

“Now they have a president who has immunity [ao vírus]You don’t need to hide in the basement like your opponent, ”he added, alluding to the Democratic presidential candidate, Joe Biden.

The question of immunity to covid-19 is still surrounded by uncertainties, the degree of protection of the antibodies and the duration of this immunity is unknown.

Speaking to Fox News, Trump also hinted that Biden might be ill.

“If you look at Joe, yesterday he coughed a lot, then he grabbed the (protective) mask and then he coughed,” he said.

“I don’t know what that means, but the press didn’t say much about the case,” he added.

Joe Biden’s team has been publishing their COVID-19 test results every day, which have been negative so far.

As for Trump, there has been further opacity, with his medical team persistently refusing to say when he had the last negative test, fueling the suspicion that he had not been screened for some time prior to the Oct. 1 positive result.
