US President Donald Trump has announced a “fantastic” main deal involving Chinese video-sharing app TikTok and Oracle and Walmart. “I gave my approval to the agreement. If it materializes, so much the better. Otherwise, it will also be fine,” added the Republican president, before leaving for a campaign meeting in North Carolina.

The first US sanctions against TikTok, accused of threatening US national security, were expected to go into effect on Sunday, but have since been postponed for a week, until the 27th, in anticipation of an imminent deal.

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) says that Trump gave the green light to the main agreement, according to which the request (application) to share videos TikTok will partner with Oracle and Walmart to become a US-based company, following discussions about national security and the future of the Internet.

The Trump administration claims that US user data collected by TikTok may be shared with the Chinese government, but the application has guaranteed that this will never happen. With this deal, the technology company Oracle beat out all the companies that were in the race for TikTok, which includes Microsoft and Twitter.

However, on Friday, TikTok had condemned the US decision to prohibit its download (transfer of applications) from Sunday in the United States and claimed to have provided all guarantees of respect for the safety of users. “The president has until November 12 to resolve the national security issues raised by TikTok. The bans could be lifted depending on the circumstances,” the Commerce department said Friday.

ByteDance, the Chinese company that owns TikTok, has been in talks for some time to transfer its activities in the United States to a US group.
