Américo Pina, Rosa Grilo’s father, was accused in the trial parallel to the death of Luís Grilo. He is charged with the crimes of simulated crime, personal favor and possession of a prohibited weapon.

This is the same case in which the lawyer Tânia Reis and the former inspector and inspector of the PJ João de Sousa – who are part of the team that defends the triathlete’s widow, Rosa Grilo – were accused a week ago of favor personal.
Both are suspected of having put a bullet in the bathtub of Rosa and Luís Grilo’s room, in the waterfalls, in Vila Franca de Xira.
The projectile was found a few days before the Loures Court handed down the sentence that sentenced Rosa Grilo to the maximum penalty for the murder of her husband. And more than a year and a half after the triathlete’s murder.
Tânia Reis and João de Sousa were questioned at that time by the homicide squad of the Judicial Police, which is trying to understand if the bullet was ‘planted’ in the place to interfere in the trial. But the Loures Court ended up not giving great importance to the bullet, since the PJ had already shown the photographs of the examinations carried out at the couple’s home, in which there was no bullet. Still, this case led to a new investigation.
To Expresso, João de Sousa said that he considers that the suspicions of having ‘placed’ a bullet “are unfounded.” Remember that it is “very serious” for a lawyer to have been charged, “in a democratic state of law.” And he adds: “It is very serious that a defense team is coerced because the institutions do not allow themselves to be scrutinized.”
João de Sousa also mentions that in July he asked to be constituted as a defendant but that he was only now called to testify by the PJ. “It is very difficult for an average Portuguese to understand this whole process.”
The lawyer Tânia Reis corroborates the statements of João de Sousa. “I am calm. I am sure that the Bar Association will act because I am exercising the duty of patronage.” And he says: “It is becoming more and more dangerous to exercise the right of defense in Portugal.” It does not pronounce on the process, since it is in secret of justice.
