In statements to Lusa, Pedro Araújo, from the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) said that most of the occurrences “due to adverse weather conditions” were tree falls (203), followed by 174 floods, 88 falls of structures and 82 runway cleanings.

“We must highlight the district of Leiria, which registered a total of 143 occurrences, followed by the district of Lisbon with 135 and then the districts of Setúbal and Faro with 47 each,” he added.

According to the official, for today, “from a meteorological point of view there is a relief [das condições meteorológicas adversas]”.

“However, we are going to keep the districts of Braga, Porto, Vila Real, Viseu, Aveiro, Coimbra and Leiria on a yellow alert for precipitation, due to its persistence, which can sometimes occur strongly,” he added.

The yellow warning is issued by the IPMA whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on the weather situation.

As of Friday, until 6:00 p.m., 309 incidents due to bad weather had been recorded, with the district of Lisbon reporting the most cases, with 113 incidents.

The highest number of occurrences recorded so far were small floods (129), followed by falls from trees (83) and falls from structures (37), and there were also two landslides.

Among the most significant, a source from the ANEPC highlighted the floods in the city of Setúbal and Beja and the “strange phenomena related to the wind” in Palmela (Setúbal district).

An intense storm hit several parts of the city of Beja on Friday morning, causing the fall of more than 100 trees and damage to vehicles and infrastructure, the source of the fire department told Lusa.

In the municipality of Palmela, a phenomenon of strong winds that occurred on the Estrada do Lau, caused the fall of large trees, EDP poles and damaged two houses.
