Only tourists can move between municipalities, despite the restrictions in force between October 30 and November 3, to stop the contagion with the new coronavirus, AHRESP said today, citing a clarification from the executive.

According to the clarification sent by the office of the Secretary of State for Tourism, Rita Marques, to the Portuguese Association of Hotels, Restaurants and Similar (AHRESP), the restrictions on circulation between municipalities, in the period between 00:00 hours from October 30 and at 6:00 am on November 3, they do not apply to “foreign tourists, as well as to national citizens residing in the autonomous regions and outside of Portugal” for places such as tourist developments and local accommodations.

In a previous statement, AHRESP had indicated that, in its opinion, the prohibition in question did not apply to accommodation reservations made previously.

In reading the diploma, AHRESP understands that reservations made previously, either in the field of Tourist Accommodation, or in the field of family and corporate events, “are accommodated” in the part of the resolution that indicates that this restriction does not apply. “Travel by non-resident citizens to places of accredited residence.”

Earlier this week, the Portuguese Hospitality Association (AHP) called for a travel ban between municipalities to exclude hotel reservations made before the measure was announced.

This measure was approved at the meeting of the Council of Ministers held on October 22, highlighting the AHP that caused “immense disruptions and cancellations” with some hotel establishments, in the “expected reservations of small groups, nationals and foreigners.”
