Initially, the president of the Reacir, Inclusir e Reciclar (RIR) party, Vitorino Silva, would only be present in a collective debate with the remaining candidates for the presidential elections on January 24. Now, Tino de Rans, as he is known, should participate in this collective debate and in 12 more face to face (at six in Porto Canal there are another six in RTP3). He will be the candidate with the most televised confrontations, if all the candidates accept the proposal of the RTP information department sent to the candidates on Tuesday for another round of debates with the former socialist militant.

His exclusion from the 15 face-to-face televisions, agreed between RTP, SIC and TVI, caused a wave of indignation on social networks. Porto Canal ended up scheduling face-to-face debates between Tino de Rans and the remaining six candidates (Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will have had a role in this alternative) who should have their candidacy made possible by the Constitutional Court.

Porto Canal information director, Tiago Girão, announced on Twitter the dates of the candidate’s face-to-face meetings with Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, Ana Gomes, André Ventura, Marisa Matias and Tiago Mayan. The face-to-face with João Ferreira still had no closed date.

Given the possibility of including more of this candidate in the duels In the presidential elections, SIC and TVI refused to change the grid, but RTP confirmed to Expresso the commitment to change it to include the president of the RIR, having addressed the invitations to the different candidates this Tuesday morning.

The information director of the public channel, António José Teixeira, explained that the six additional face-to-face confrontations with Tino de Rans will take place between January 4 and 9, at 10:45 p.m., on RTP3, without specifying the distribution of candidates by dates. After the attempt to distribute these face-to-face through the other two competing channels proved unsuccessful, RTP made “an adjustment to provide equal opportunity”, he stated. And he guaranteed to have affirmative answers, although he did not reveal which ones.

Contacted by Expresso in the middle of this Tuesday afternoon, before receiving the information related to RTP, the candidate was surprised by this multiplication of debates in which he had to participate, but did not ask. “I go everywhere, I do not reject anything,” he guaranteed, granting, however, that “Repeated debates don’t make much sense”. Vitorino Silva went from a peripheral character to a central figure: “Before, my phone didn’t ring and now it keeps ringing. I had no agenda and now I have two “.

In this new model, Tino de Rans becomes the candidate who will participate in the most debates (13), while the rest will be present in eight, if they accept the RTP proposal. In the 2016 elections, he obtained 3.28% of the votes (152,094 votes), leaving just under 30,000 votes for the communist candidate Edgar Silva.
