Since the first phase of deflation, at the beginning of May, when there were not so many Portuguese staying at home and making so few trips away from home, TSF which cites a Statistical Products and Services Analysis (PSE).

This is due to several reasons: the increase in the number of infections, the warnings from the health authorities and, this past weekend, the prohibition order between municipalities decreed by the Government, indicates the PSE, a data analysis consultancy that developed a technology to analyze mobility in order to understand changes in the behavior of the Portuguese during the pandemic.

PSE’s data analysis specialist, Nuno Santos, explains to the TSF that the drop in travel over the past weekend was significant. “Both this Saturday and Sunday we reached levels of confinement that we had not seen since the beginning of May,” he said.

Last Sunday, 57% of the Portuguese in the PSE sample did not leave home, 12 percentage points more compared to the previous Sunday.

Furthermore, the number of Portuguese who have moved away from home has dropped to less than half: from 40% to 16% last Saturday and from 31% to 11% on Sunday.
