The president of the National Union of Civil Aviation Flight Personnel (SNPVAC), Henrique Louro Martins, criticized today the dismissal of 1,800 TAP crew members.

“The company called the union, informed the union of what will happen and will soon deliver the restructuring process in Brussels. And then we will wait if it is accepted, or if it is not accepted. But what happened today was a unilateral decision-making, ”said Henrique Louro Martins in statements to SIC Notícias.

The official criticized the fact that the restructuring process was decided in Brussels. “Here, TAP needs the financial intervention of the State, and we also need that, once and for all, TAP stops being intervened from Brussels. Because Brussels is going to decide the scope of this restructuring ”.

The union has already requested a meeting with Infrastructure Minister Pedro Nuno Santos for December. This meeting with the minister will have helped the union to influence this process in some way because, look, we think that it is not with layoffs, it is not with wage cuts that TAP will be saved.

SNPVAC told its associates today that TAP will impose a 25% reduction in the company’s wage bill, the Lusa agency says today. With 750 million euros in salaries for some 10,600 workers, this represents a reduction of about 187.5 million euros.

The “layoff of 750 effective crew members is also planned, in addition to the more than 1,000 term contracts terminated, which means a definitive extinction of more than 1,800 jobs,” according to SNPVAC, cited by Lusa.

As Jornal Economico advanced this Friday, the TAP management suspended the dismissal regime, which affects the 9,000 workers of the company, a decision that comes two weeks before TAP presents its restructuring plan in Brussels, whose deadline it is December 10th.
