The traditional Christmas circus show at the Coliseu Porto Ageas will be broadcast between Saturday and January 6, 2021 in the NOS cinemas of 17 cities, including Braga, as part of a pilot project, presented today in Porto.

At a press conference, the Minister of Culture, Graça Fonseca, explained that this project, designed and developed by the Coliseu do Porto, will be the starting point for other public, private and business alliances, with the aim of supporting, promoting and promoting culture and the arts, “in a particularly difficult year.”

“In 2021, we will continue on this path of seeking alliances like this one, with Nos and other companies,” said Graça Fonseca.

In this case, the circus show will be broadcast, but it can be extended “to a world of possibilities”, such as theater, dance, opera or music, “democratizing and decentralizing access to culture”, said Graça Fonseca .

“The intention is to expand the number of partners with the aim of taking it further, in this case the circus show, but also other cultural events, invigorating the arts throughout the country,” he stressed.

The director of the Porto Ageas Coliseu, Mónica Guerreiro, explained that this pilot project will allow families spread over 17 cities on the continent and Madeira, some with mobility difficulties due to the covid-19 pandemic, “to enjoy this traditional Coliseu circus show do Porto Ageas ”.

“The show will have an audiovisual production that will be ensured in several sessions to allow a high-quality transmission in the network of movie theaters, which in turn are also facing fewer film premieres and fewer audiences due to the pandemic,” he said. Monica Guerreiro.

According to the official, this “is a first example, a pilot project, of a broader program that will be launched in collaboration between the Ministry of Culture and the NOS cinemas, which is in preparation and will include many other institutions that want to associates, either from the municipal point of view, or from the national point of view, and other types of show production houses ”.

Circo Coliseu Porto Ageas will be on display at the NOS cinemas in Vila Real, Braga, Matosinhos, Maia, Gaia, Gondomar, Paços de Ferreira, Viseu, Coimbra, Figueira da Foz, Torres Vedras, Lisbon, Odivelas, Oeiras, Cascais, Montijo, Évora, Faro, Távora and Funchal.

Two dozen artists present absolute debut figures of aerial acrobatics, illusionism, trapeze, ‘clown’, Chinese pole, tightrope, opposing forces, ‘parkour’ and juggling.

Since its inauguration, in 1941, the Coliseu – managed by the non-profit Association Amigos do Coliseu do Porto and classified as of public interest – presents its circus show every Christmas, uninterruptedly.

One of the great novelties of this year is the creation of the Circo Coliseu Orchestra, directed by director Cesário Costa, which will perform an original soundtrack designed by composer Filipe Raposo.
