The victim was 24 years old. He lived on the first floor of the building on Rua de Santa Marta.

Search operations took longer because a side wall of the building was at risk of collapse.

The explosion on Rua de Santa Marta, followed by a fire and a landslide, occurred early Sunday morning.

The front of the building collapsed and several projections hit the Hospital de Santa Marta. The explosion also affected vehicles parked on that street in downtown Lisbon. The causes are still being investigated.

The explosion in the building left five more injured. One is in serious condition, admitted to the São José Hospital in Lisbon. This is the father of the resident who died. The four remaining wounded have already been discharged.

Nine people lived in the building. Two were not in the building. 47 people were removed from neighboring buildings as a precaution.

Today, there will be a reassessment of the damages.

The Councilor for Civil Protection of the Lisbon City Council once again affirmed that the origin of the explosion in the Lisbon building may be a gas cylinder, but it is an unconfirmed suspicion.

Carlos Manuel Castro guaranteed that even in the morning, a team from the Lisbon City Council will reassess the damage to the neighboring buildings to ensure the return, or not, of 13 residents to their homes. Of the 47 displaced, 34 were able to return home overnight.

The track is cleared and debris from the destroyed building is removed.
