The Government announced today the measures that will come into force at Christmas and New Years in mainland Portugal.

The rules establish a curfew at 2 am on December 25 and January 1.

The restaurants may also be open until one in the afternoon on Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

Presenting these measures, the Prime Minister also announced that the rules will be evaluated on December 18, in accordance with the evolution of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Rules for Christmas

1 – On December 25 and 26, the curfew takes effect from 2 am;

2 – between 11 pm on December 23 and 5 am on December 24, circulation is allowed for people who travel;

3 – on December 26, the ban will come into effect from 11:00 pm in the municipalities where it corresponds;

4 – in relation to restaurants, on 24 and 25 and December, they can close at one, but with the doors closed from midnight;

5 – December 26, restaurants can serve lunch until 3:30 pm;

6 – In the culture sector, the Government established that “closing times do not apply to cultural establishments”.

Rules for New Years Eve

7 – on January 1, the curfew goes into effect at 2 am on January 1;

8 – also on January 1, the curfew is lifted at 5 in the morning to re-enter into force at 11 at night;

9 – restaurants can operate until 1 am on January 1 across the country, but doors must close after midnight;

10 – On January 1, restaurants will only be able to serve meals on the premises until 3:30 p.m., in very high and extreme risk municipalities;

11 – between midnight on December 31 and 5 am on January 4, circulation between municipalities is prohibited, except for health reasons, imperative urgency or other specifically provided;

12 – It is forbidden to hold public or open parties or celebrations of a non-religious nature on December 31 and January 1, 2021;

13 – public parties or parties open to the public are prohibited;

14 – Meetings on public roads with more than six people are prohibited.
