The world remains involved in a pandemic caused by COVID-19. There are no solutions yet, but there are solutions that can help you quickly identify chains of contagion. Portugal has an application called STAYAWAY COVID, but in the Android application store there was an application with the same name.

The Spanish app has been downloaded over 100,000 times! See if you don’t have the wrong COVID-19 app, install the correct one.

COVID-19 Alert: There are (probably) thousands of Portuguese with the wrong application

The application was simply called STAYAWAY and for now it is no longer in the Google application store, at least in Portugal. Recent data indicated that this application had already been downloaded more than 100,000 times. This happened after the launch of the Portuguese application, with a similar name, which is presumed that there are thousands of Portuguese with the wrong application.

COVID-19 Alert: There are (probably) thousands of Portuguese with the wrong application

If you are an Android smartphone user, check if your COVID app is simply called STAYAWAY (the wrong one) or STAYAWAY COVID. The application interface in Spanish is shown in the following image.

Alert: another application with the name STAYWAY is

Portuguese application downloaded almost 100,000 times

According to the data obtained, the Portuguese application has already been downloaded almost 100,000 times. Remember that the portuguese app STAY COVID, whose installation is voluntary, allows to identify, quickly and anonymously and through physical proximity, contagion networks by COVID-19. It then informs users that they have been, in the last 14 days, in the same space as someone infected with the new coronavirus.

As we already mentioned, this application does not help to cure COVID-19, it does not detect positive cases or identify your phone contacts. This application is used to help DGS to more quickly identify the chains of contagion, so that close contacts of an infected person can be notified. It should be noted that, to date, 46 infected have already put the code in the application to alert their contacts.

Important note: Although the application integrates with the system's notification system, INESC TEC recommends users to open it at least once a day.

Remember that…

  • The STAYAWAY COVID app is safe
  • GPS information is not used
  • The application is a voluntary installation.
  • No contacts are identified, that is, the app labels are completely anonymous
  • There is no record of the app having a negative influence on battery life.
  • The infected person can decide whether or not to alert other users.
  • No registration required
