There are already 79 Erasmus students from the University of Porto infected

The number of students of the Erasmus program at the University of Porto infected with covid-19 amounted to 79, the institution revealed this Friday, adding that the positive cases “are distributed among several faculties and several courses.”

In a statement released Thursday night, U. Porto clarified that its positive cases “are distributed among several schools and courses.”

This “reinforces the belief of health authorities that the infection occurred outside the context of classes or other activities within the university,” he adds.

U. Porto also stated that, so far, there have been no cases of contagion “within the premises.

Also in response to the Lusa agency, after the covid-19 outbreak among higher education students in Porto, the Porto Polytechnic Institute (IPP) said on Friday that 20 of its students were infected, 14 of which are from the program. Erasmus and seven are nationals.

The IPP, which does not know if, in addition to the 20 infected students, there are other students or teachers in prophylactic isolation.

The institution says that it is evaluating “on its own initiative” all ERASMUS students, out of a total of 195, and following the recommendations of health authorities.

On Thursday, the Northern Regional Health Administration (ARS-N) revealed that 49 higher education students from Porto were infected with covid-19.

Contacted this Friday by Lusa, ARS-N said it had not received any update on the data published on Thursday.
