Portugal registered another 4656 cases of covid-19 due to contagion in the last 24 hours, surpassing yesterday, which had been the worst day in history in the number of cases of the disease in the country.
According to the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate General of Health (DGS) this Friday (October 30), 40 more people died from the new coronavirus. It is the day with the most deaths.
There are 93 more hospitalizations in the last 24 hours, for a total of 1927, and six more people in intensive care.
Portugal also registered a new maximum number of people hospitalized in Intensive Care Units (ICU) since the start of the covid-19 pandemic, with 275 people hospitalized, according to the General Directorate of Health (DGS).
The maximum value of hospitalizations in intensive care was registered on April 7, the day when 271 people were in these hospital units with covid-19.
It was also in April that the highest number of deaths was recorded: 37, according to the DGS bulletin of April 3.
There are still 2,869 active cases, for a total of 57,355. This figure results from the subtraction of the recovered and deceased from the total number of cases.
In total, since the start of the pandemic, the country has registered 2,468 deaths and 137,272 infections.
Of the new cases, 2,831 (60.8%) were identified in the North, where 19 people died on the last day. In the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, there were 1,357 new cases (29%) and 13 deaths occurred. Three people died in the Center, two people died in the Algarve and three in the Alentejo.
There are 1747 more recovered, the total is now 77,449.
Who can or cannot move between counties these days?
Going to work, school, attending shows with a ticket already reserved, traveling abroad or going to the notary’s office are some of the exceptions provided in the resolution of the Council of Ministers that imposes limitations on movement between municipalities in this period, which includes the weekend of Dead. On the other hand, the movement of guests to weddings or baptisms, for example, is part of the situations that will not be allowed.
The exceptions provided for the prohibition of circulation between municipalities from midnight this Friday are:
– health professionals and other workers of health and social support institutions, as well as teaching and non-teaching staff in schools;
– Civil protection agents, security forces and services, military, militarized and civilian personnel of the Armed Forces and inspectors of the Food and Economic Security Authority;
– holders of political offices, magistrates and directors of the social partners and political parties represented in the Assembly of the Republic;
– Ministers of worship, by accreditation of the competent bodies of the respective church or religious community, in accordance with paragraph 2 of article 15 of Law No. 16/2001, of June 22, in its current wording;
– support staff of sovereign bodies and parties with parliamentary representation, provided that the respective professional relationship is proven by a worker card or other appropriate document;
– travel for the purpose of carrying out professional or similar activities.
Dramatic situation in Europe with 1,104,121 cases in one week
Europe registered a total of 1,104,121 new positive cases of covid-19 last week, a situation that the European Commission described today as “dramatic”, also highlighting the “increase in the number of deaths” in recent days.
“Last week we saw 1,104,121 new confirmed infections in Europe, a number the size of Brussels, not to mention the increase in the number of deaths in Europe. This is dramatic,” said European Health Commissioner Stella. Kyriakides.
Speaking about the start of the videoconference of European Union (EU) ministers of health, the official noted that, “as there is a resurgence of cases, the preparedness measures implemented” in the first wave “become even more crucial for the next few weeks”.
Some of these measures are painful and there is already pandemic fatigue on the part of the citizens, but we need to overcome this situation with increased testing and follow-up of contacts, strengthening the capacity of the health sector and the application of restrictions on life daily, where necessary, to break the chain of transmission, ”urged Stella Kyriakides.
