The PSD says that the mandatory collection is ″ incompatible ″ with the presidential

The vice president of the PSD, David Justino, said this Monday, after an audience with the President of the Republic, that measures such as the mandatory withdrawal will be “incompatible” with the presidential elections on the 24th. The PSD and the PS will vote in favor of the state of emergency, this time for just a week.

When leaving the Palace of Belém in Lisbon, David Justino said that the forced withdrawal of the Portuguese and going to the polls “are incompatible, of course.” The PSD will reevaluate its position after the 12th Infarmed meeting, as the pandemic effects of the Christmas period “will only be felt from next week.”

Before that, however, David Justino confirmed the PSD’s “favorable vote” for the next period of the state of emergency, which begins this Friday and will continue until the 15th: “I am sensitive to the arguments of limiting freedom, but the freedom without responsibility is something we cannot accept ”, he justified.

The orange leader said that the party will “analyze” the issue “during the next week”, when it already has “more solid” data on the reality of the pandemic.

Justino also left a message to António Costa: “The Government cannot complain about the largest opposition party, because what we are doing is giving all the means so that the Government can govern well and solve the problems of the Portuguese. So, if it does it or not, is part of the political appreciation that we are doing ”, he considered.

PS also waiting to see

José Luís Carneiro, deputy secretary general of the PS, did not want to directly address the question of the possible measures that will be in force on the presidential day. “Today we are dealing mainly with the PS agreement on the renewal of the state of emergency for another 8 days,” said the socialist.

“In 8 days, and after the evaluation made by the health authorities on the 12th, we will reevaluate the data,” Carneiro continued. However, he admitted that it is “expected” that the figures “tend to have grown” during the Christmas period.

Even so, the PS, for now, “will wait” for the meeting on the 12th at Infarmed. Then, “the terms in which the content of the policy is given will have to be evaluated” for a possible new state of emergency, Carneiro concluded.

The extension of the state of emergency will occur, this time, for a period of just one week and not the usual 15 days, since Marcelo said he had no data to evaluate, for now, the effect of Christmas.

Of all the parties with a parliamentary seat, the Liberal Initiative, which has voted against, was the only one that admitted that it would change the course of its vote.
