Margarida Sousa, a Portuguese goalkeeper who received more than 40 people the night of the Bataclan attacks, says she would do so again after five years, but says she is afraid to come and testify in the process that will take place in 2021 in Paris.

“It’s not the effect of seeing people again, it’s that we don’t know what will happen next. They will see our faces and it will happen on television. And even if [os terroristas] they are in jail, they have contacts abroad, “said Margarida Sousa in an interview with the Lusa agency.

Although she has not yet been summoned to appear in court and fears reprisals for a possible testimony, this Portuguese emigrant living in France for more than 30 years hopes that “justice will be done” against those who helped the seven perpetrators of the attack.

The night of November 13, 2015 lives on in the memory of Margarida Sousa and the inhabitants of the 11th arrondissement of Paris, where the Bataclan concert hall is located.

“In our neighborhood everything changed. We try to forget, we try to live, but it is not the same anymore. Or are those wounds that come and leave marks on us. Just a new attack and everything comes back to us. We do not live in peace,” confessed the goalie.

130 people died in the attack and more than 400 were injured. That night, more than 40 people arrived at the Margarida Sousa building inside the Bataclan, seven of whom were injured and one of them was in serious condition. Opening the door to these victims is an act that the Portuguese goalkeeper would not hesitate to repeat.

“I did it all over again. I didn’t think twice about what was happening. There was a gap of two seconds that I froze and then I saw all the blood dripping onto the floor. I don’t even know how I did it, or how it started, or how. finished. “, remembered.

The acts of Margarida Sousa were recognized by the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, through the concession of the rank of Lady of the Order of Liberty, as well as distinctions from the city of Paris and Peñafiel, from where she is originally . However, on social media, this migrant received “attacks”.

“There are those who think we did this out of interest. There are those who think that we receive money and people judge me a lot in Portugal, especially on social networks. […] I never wanted a medal. If later there was a desire and sympathy to do certain things to me, it was because it was a historic moment, ”he said.

After five years, Margarida Sousa hesitates to consider herself a victim of the terrorist attack, since she was not present in any of the places of the attack nor was she physically affected, but she could no longer see rocket fire to remind her of “the final attack” by the police Bataclan.

“I suffered, without suffering. I saw only half the mass,” he concluded.
