This Thursday, the GNR and the PSP held a press conference in which they clarified the joint operations of the national patrol that will be carried out during this period.

Rui Veloso, GNR’s director of operations, appealed to citizens at the end of the conference: “The order is to stay home. Try to stay at home, avoid unnecessary movements, since this is the only way to contain this pandemic ”.

During the conference, the official explained that “the units will carry out coordinated patrolling, inspection and awareness actions, in order to ensure that the population complies with current regulations and refrains from making unnecessary long trips.”

Regarding the movements, he also stated that “throughout these five days of operation, the workforce will be committed to the movement of people and vehicles, paying special attention to the main daily routes that connect the large cities of the coast, Central and North, interior of Portugal ”.

The director of operations clarified that “they will pay special attention to the places where a greater number of people are likely, that is, in the bus and train terminals” and that they will mainly seek to act in a “line of awareness and pedagogy”, but reiterating that they will not stop “being firm in the face of risky behaviors that could endanger everyone’s safety and public health.”

PSP will compromise “all valences, metropolitan, district and regional commands”, according to Luís Elias, respective director of operations.

In statements to the media, he explained that, in addition to traveling between municipalities, the PSP will also control crowds in large urban centers, particularly at night, as well as the consumption of alcoholic beverages on public roads and the use of masks in the streets. via. public. The PSP’s director of operations also appealed to the common sense of citizens and to limit travel during this period.
