The Oporto Chamber Opposition leaves the investigation of the Selminho case in the hands of the Public Ministry (MP) and Justice, in which the mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira, is accused of embezzlement.

The prosecution demands that the mayor be sentenced to the loss of his mandate. Regarding the case, PSD highlights contradictions on the part of the MP, the CDU awaits clarifications and BE recalls the warnings already made. PS is not pronounced.

“When, in 2017, the PSD reported a conflict of interest [no caso Selminho]He was right ”, affirms the Social Democrat Álvaro Almeida, councilor of the Porto Chamber, about the prosecution of the Public Ministry (MP) of the mayor of Porto.

From the CDU, Ilda Figueiredo says that she does not know the accusation and, therefore, prefers not to comment on the process. However, the councilor acknowledges that “at that time, the CDU took all positions, including a complaint to the MP to find out what had happened”, but that it was archived. “We know that the CDU was right about the ownership of the land and part of it belongs to the Autarchy,” he reiterates. “But we had no more information,” he says, waiting for the mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira, to make the necessary clarifications during the next Chamber meeting, next Monday.

Ilda Figueiredo leaves another caveat: “It is not by order of the MP that the loss of the mandate occurs. It is the court that decides this.”

Álvaro Almeida also highlights some “contradictions” on the part of the parliamentarian, who says “he does not understand.” “In 2017 there was no problem and now, in 2020, there is already. I would like you to explain to me, ”he says.

On the part of the Left Bloc (BE), the municipal representative Susana Constante Pereira says that the accusation “comes to support the warnings and concerns that the party has been expressing.” The deputy says that since the “reform of the Municipal Master Plan (PDM)” so that we can build ourselves next to the Arrábida bridge, “or the possibility of paying compensation to the company” if this is not possible, that the Block requests “a thorough clarification to the city. “

“In addition to these political efforts, the BE filed a complaint to nullify this agreement because it has implications for the PDM,” added Susana Constante Pereira, specifying that, for administrative reasons related to the acquisition of new data by the MP, “the participation has not advanced ”.

However, the deputy reiterates: “the agreement was a wrong option.” “It is very bad for Porto that the mayor is in this position,” laments Susana Constante Pereira.

Tiago Barbosa Ribeiro, president of PS / Porto, said that he does not comment on the investigations or processes underway, “respecting the principle of separation of powers and awaiting the result of this process.”
