The Government today announced several measures for workplaces in the metropolitan areas of Lisbon and Porto.

The measures were announced by the prime minister after the meeting of the council of ministers that took place this Thursday, September 10.

“It is necessary to make a greater effort in the metropolitan areas of Lisbon and Porto to avoid the concentration of people both in public transport and in workplaces,” António Costa said today.

“The measures envisaged in a teleworking measure” will remain in force for Greater Porto and Greater Lisbon, he said.

António Costa also announced that the Government approved in general and that it will now present to the social partners several measures aimed at organizing work, with a view to approving these measures at the next Council of Ministers:

  1. Mirror teams: half of the team in the workplace: rotation scale between remote work and face-to-face work;
  2. Mandatory delay: differentiated entry and exit times; different times for breaks and meals.
  3. Reduction in the movement of workers between home and work.

The Prime Minister pointed out that the health authorities found in several outbreaks in companies that “the time of eating is interrupted where there was excessive proximity and relaxation of protection measures, because they cannot eat with the mask on.”

When asked who will monitor whether companies are complying with the rules, the prime minister noted that the rules must be enforced.

“Those who are going to supervise, of course, are themselves [empresas]. And we reinforce the ACT [Autoridade para as Condições do Trabalho], who will perform this additional inspection. But there is no better tax for each of us than for us. We cannot have a policeman or an inspector behind every person in every company. Everyone has to comply with the rules, ”said António Costa.
