The mayor of Vila Real, Rui Santos, considered this Sunday that “it is incomprehensible” the delay in making known the results of the screening carried out after four cases of covid-19 were detected in the hospital.

I think after more than 36 hours it was expected that we would have all the results already, because we have reliable information that the hospital is capable of providing all these tests in three, four hours and I am a little amazed that this has not been done yet. it happened, “Rui Santos told reporters.

The Hospital Center of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (CHTMAD) announced this Saturday that four positive cases of covid-19 were detected in the Vila Real hospital, including three health professionals and a user.

According to CHTMAD, positive cases were immediately isolated, all their contacts were marked and 145 were made testicles users and health professionals of the service in question.

For the mayor, the delay in the dissemination of results “is completely incomprehensible” and it does not seem reasonable, considering that it was important to check whether, of these 145 analyzes, there are more cases “so that the line of contagion in the community can be followed and the need to act and adopt complementary measures can be assessed.”

“The hospital center has had a very large investment in recent months related to all the equipment connected to covid-19, it also had a large investment in its laboratory and I am convinced that it can currently have results on the street in three, four hours “, he stressed.

The Vila Real Chamber said that, after the detection of positive cases in the hospital, “many other tests were carried out, covering people who could have contacted those infected.”

So far, he added, it has been another positive case detected, a young student who attends the Diogo Cão School Group.

As a preventive measure, Students from the same class were contacted to proceed with prophylactic isolation. and, depending on the municipality, also the ATL room that student attends will be closed and colleagues will be contacted.

The chamber stressed that “the teachers involved, having a lower risk of contagion, will not be affected by their activity.”

The CHTMAD board of directors guaranteed “to the entire population and health professionals that all safety conditions are guaranteed in the hospital.”

The situation is being monitored “in close collaboration” by the municipality of Vila Real and the health authorities.

According to the president, today there are a total of 23 active cases of covid-19 in the municipality of Vila Real, none of them hospitalized.
