The President of the Government of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque, confirmed that 18 positive cases of coronavirus have already been identified, coming from the new strain identified in the United Kingdom, in statements to the media this Monday. 17 came from the United Kingdom and one from Lisbon and the Tagus Valley.

The official says that these 18 positive cases resulted from the 21 analyzes that the region sent to the Ricardo Jorge Institute, when it became known that a new strain of covid-19 was identified in the United Kingdom.

Of these 18 cases, Albuquerque made sure that all were in prophylactic isolation.

The minister also confirmed that there was a case of two English citizens, who refused to comply with isolation and test for covid-19, and ended up “coming back.”

On this particular case, Albuquerque said that in the region “it is to comply with the rules.”

Regarding vaccines, the president of the Madeira executive said that at this time “he has no information” on when the first doses will arrive in Madeira. However, the government official guaranteed that if the vaccines arrive in the region tomorrow, and after the thawing process has begun, and that vaccination can begin in six hours.
