The municipality of Ourém returns today Friday to register a high number of positive cases of contagion by Covid-19.

In the last 24 hours, the health authorities of the Middle Tagus have identified 14 more positive tests, which will be added to the ten detected on Thursday. With these data, Ourém becomes the fourth municipality in the region with the most confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic (157) and the third with the most active cases (40).

To the LEIRIA REGION, the delegate of public health of the Middle Tagus, Maria dos Anjos Esperança, explained that the situation is related to home users in Póvoa de Santarém, municipality of Santarém, where an outbreak was detected Casa de Repouso Fonte Serrã, which involved the transfer of 18 users to a home in Fatima.

The users, at first, did not test positive for Covid-19, but after further tests, the health delegate explains, the infection was confirmed in some users and also in four employees, who were monitoring only these patients.

“According to the General Directorate of Health, the cases, despite being associated with the outbreak in the Santarém house, are reported to the municipality where they occur, in this case Ourém. And for the moment, these people are no longer in Ourém, more specifically in Fátima, and they are fulfilling the isolation in their homes ”, says Maria dos Anjos Esperança, adding that some relatives of the employees also tested positive.

In addition to Ourém, four new cases were confirmed in Marinha Grande, three in Leiria and Alcobaça and two in Peniche. In the municipalities of Batalha, Bombarral, Caldas da Rainha and Nazaré, one case was identified in each.

That is to say, the Leiria region (Leiria district and Ourém municipality) woke up today with 30 more positive cases of Covid-19, in ten of the 17 municipalities of the territory.

Leira is the municipality with the most active cases (64), followed by Pombal (41).

Recoveries continue to rise, albeit at a slower pace. Today, 11 more people have recovered from the disease: five in Peniche, four in Leiria, one in Pombal and one in Caldas da Rainha. There are now 1,060 recoveries.

The Leiria region has 1,367 positive cases of Covid-19 identified since the start of the pandemic, of which 1,060 have already recovered. There are 263 active cases, 19 more than yesterday, and 44 deaths associated with Covid-19.

Portugal has 899 more positive cases

Portugal has registered five deaths since Thursday, associated with Covid-19, for a total of 1,936 deaths associated with the disease.

According to the DGS daily report, the deaths occurred in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (three), Centro (one) and Norte (one).

Since the start of the pandemic, health authorities have reported 72,055 cases of infection, of which 899 in the last 24 hours. Of these 505 are concentrated in the Lisbon region and the Tagus Valley, while the North region, the second in the country with the most cases identified since yesterday, has 263.

According to the daily assessment of the epidemiological situation of the General Directorate of Health (DGS), 624 patients are hospitalized (36 more than yesterday), of which 86 are in intensive care units (one more).

The data reveals 327 additional cases of recovery since yesterday, Saturday, for a total of 47,003.
