The director of the INEM in the North, António Barbosa, assumed this Saturday that the employees and owners of a pastry shop were vaccinated next to the Institute’s facilities.
The director of INEM Norte, António Barbosa, assumed “full responsibility” for the vaccination of the owners and employees of a bakery adjacent to the institute’s facilities in Porto. “By deontological imperative, it had to be like that,” he justified.
That official explained that, after the INEM vaccination, there were 11 doses left. “As a doctor, I couldn’t throw them away,” António Barbosa said at a press conference this Saturday, noting that after defrosting, the vaccines will spoil if they are not used.
The solution was to get out of the building and find 11 people to administer the remaining doses. The employees and owners of the “São Jorge” pastry shop were vaccinated, next to the INEM headquarters, in Porto, but António Barbosa admits that the people could have been vaccinated in other establishments in the area.
According to António Barbosa, this solution made it possible to monitor the people who took the first dose and ensure that they would take the second, which happened on Friday, taking advantage of vaccines that would otherwise be wasted.
António Barbosa also clarified that he did not resign, as announced in a note sent by the INEM to the media this Saturday, but that he made the position available, since an investigation into what happened has already been announced.
