The income of the children up to the third tranche of the IRS no longer affects the right of parents to the Solidarity Supplement for the Elderly, according to an amendment to the regime approved this Thursday in the Council of Ministers.

According to the information available in the final statement from the Council of Ministers, the Government approved the decree-law that alters the Solidarity Supplement for the Elderly (CSI) regime, defining that the provision of this social benefit is no longer taken into account. children’s income up to the third income tax bracket.

To have access to the CSI, the elderly person had to carry out a resource assessment, to which not only their income was counted, but also the annual income of the person with whom they are married or living in fact for more than two years , and children, even if they don’t live with him.

In the case of children, what the law has defined so far is that if the income exceeds the third step, the older person loses the right to CSI.

If the income was in the first step, it did not count towards the resources of the elderly, that is, the solidarity component is null, as explained in the guide available on the website of the Social Security Institute.

On the other hand, if the income of the children is in the second step, they add 5% of the CSI reference value to the resources of the elderly, and in 2019 the value was 262.93 euros for isolated elderly and 230 , 07 euros for the elderly. non-isolated elderly.

In the event that the children are in the third income bracket, the law defined that they count as 10% of the CSI reference value, that is, 525.86 euros for isolated elderly people and 460.13 euros for non-elderly people. isolated.

With the amendment approved this Thursday, the elimination of the impact of the income of the children extends to the third income bracket.

The Government also approved the creation of a mechanism that waives the initial payment of the cost of medicines not reimbursed by the State.
