Four new companies are investing more than 25 million euros in the Gandra business park, in Valença, and one of the new factories, in the automotive sector, should create up to 300 jobs, the president of the Chamber said today .

Speaking to the Lusa agency, Social Democrat Manuel Lopes (PSD) said that the new unit of the North American multinational automotive components company Lear Corporation will start operating on February 1, 2021, creating between 250 and 300 new jobs. job.

“We have four new plants under construction in the Valença business park. Lear will only employ between 250 and 300 people, ”said the mayor.

“At this point, we have already started to have some difficulties in skilled labor. We are talking about companies from various sectors of activity, such as the automotive industry, door automation, waste recycling and metallurgy ”, he reinforced.

Manuel Lopes added that the Valença business park, installed in the Gandra parish, currently has 47 companies installed.

“In the last ten years, around 1,500 jobs were created in the municipality,” he said.

According to Manuel Lopes, the capacity of the Gandra business park “is running out”, and “its expansion is being analyzed, as well as the construction of a new business area.”

“I will never let any company escape due to lack of space”, he guaranteed, noting that both the expansion project of the Gandra business park and the construction of a new reception area, “in collaboration with the neighboring municipality of Vila Nova de Cerveira , are in a preliminary phase ”.

“The location of the new business area that we are analyzing is in the parish of Chamosinhos, near the Alto Minho-Cerval aerodrome, shared by the two municipalities. The new industrial zone would also serve the two municipalities, ”he observed.

In 2017, the two neighboring municipalities announced the preparation of the “first supra-municipal detail plan for industrial land for the creation of a new 140-hectare joint business area”.

The new industrial pole “will be located in the southern part of the municipality of Valença” and “will allow geographical continuity between the existing industrial areas” in the two municipalities that would already begin “negotiations with the competent entities” because they consider that, “in the future next this pole will be absolutely necessary for the projection of these territories ”.

Also in 2017, the municipalities of Vila Nova de Cerveira and Valença carried out reforms of the aerodrome, providing the infrastructure “with better security and access conditions, given its strategic role at an economic level, due to its proximity to industrial and tourist areas. for the strong connection with neighboring Galicia ”.

Alto Minho-Cerval aerodrome is certified for ultralight aviation, issued by the National Institute of Civil Aviation (INAC) in 2009, and is administered by the Aeroclube de Cerval, an association formed by Portuguese and Spanish pilots, created in 1992.

Nearby, there is also a landfill that serves the six municipalities of Vale do Minho (Melgaço, Monção, Valença, Paredes de Coura, Vila Nova de Cerveira and Caminha).
