The Monastery of Tibães, in Braga, reopens to the public next Monday, after the temporary closure due to the covid-19 pandemic.

The reopening coincides with the celebration of International Museum Day, this year dedicated to the theme ‘Museums for equality: diversity and inclusion’, says the Regional Directorate for Northern Culture (DRCN).

Following the plan of lack of definition, issued by the Government of Portugal, the Monastery of Tibães had already reopened the visit to the fence on the 4th, now proceeding with the reopening of all its spaces to the public.

DRCN considers that “museums, monuments and other cultural spaces have a fundamental role in society. In addition to their educational and cultural activities, they are now considered important poles that generate social transformation. The development of various interdisciplinary projects and the carrying out of activities aimed at different types of public have tried to reduce social asymmetries, promote cultural diversity and make these spaces accessible and increasingly inclusive ”.

To mark the date and the symbolism of the occasion, free admission to all museums under the tutelage of DRCN, including the Monastery of Tibães, was determined, and the first visitor (from May 18) will receive an offer that is translated in a symbolic gesture of welcome.

The space will operate from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with a free visit to the building and the fence, the screening of the film “Monastery of São Martinho de Tibães: open for three decades [email protected]! “and the workshops” The preventive conservation of a piece on the museum route “and” Restoration work on the mural painting of the chapel of S. Bento da Cerca “.
