The government of the Azores extends public calamity situation in five islands

In an extraordinary meeting of the Governing Council held on August 31, 2020, by videoconference, it was decided to extend the declaration of the situation of public calamity on the islands of Santa María, São Miguel, Terceira, Pico and Faial until midnight on the 15th. . of September; as well as the extension of the declaration of an alert situation on the islands of Graciosa, São Jorge, Flores and Corvo until midnight, also on September 15.

The decision of the Governing Council is due to the fact that in the Azores, as of August 31, there are a total of 29 active positive cases on the islands of São Miguel, Terceira and Pico.

The government adds in a note that, in addition, “a chain of local transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus remains active, which affects the municipalities of Ponta Delgada and Vila Franca do Campo, which advises the maintenance of the measures already determined to São Miguel Island, by Resolution of the Governing Council No. 231/2020, of August 12 ”.

In this way, the Government of the Azores determines for the island of São Miguel, and will enter into force between 00:00 hours on September 2 (Wednesday) and 24:00 hours on September 9, the closure of establishments of drinks and the like. with dance spaces; the closure, from 10 pm, of bars and other drinking establishments, with or without a show, with or without terrace service.

From 10:00 p.m. to 06:00 a.m. the next day, service stations can keep their operations running, exclusively for the purpose of selling fuel and supplying vehicles to the public.

The executive recommends to the local authorities of the island of São Miguel the signaling, with the security forces and the competent inspection entities, of the establishments that do not comply with the standards set forth in the previous number, as well as those that arise from the guidelines of the Regional Health Authority. .

The Governing Council also decided to determine that, after the reopening of the national maritime space to cruise ships and yachts from international ports, the normalization of the berthing of these vessels in the ports and marinas of the archipelago should be promoted, provided that the respective passengers do so. . test upon arrival, unless waived by the Regional Health Authority in view of nonstop travel time and absence of symptoms.
