According to the Observer, the government will not apply restrictions on movement between municipalities on Christmas Eve and Christmas, thus allowing travel. However, the measure will still be discussed in the Council of Ministers this Friday, and the official announcement of the measures to be considered arrives only on Saturday.

Thus, according to the publication, the government does not intend to prevent families from meeting during this festive season, but, at the same time, will promote pedagogical action among the population, so that Christmas is lived safely.

On Tuesday, in an interview with the Observer, António Costa said that on Saturday he would announce the measures for Christmas “with the best possible conditions”, but warned that “New Year’s Eve will have all the restrictions.”

“The Government proposed to the President of the Republic, and the President of the Republic accepted that this time, when we announce the renewal of the state of emergency, we can announce not only the measures for the next fortnight, but also the measures for the next fortnight, that is, until January 6, 7 ”, revealed the prime minister.

According to the prime minister, “it is essential that people have an early idea of what Christmas is going to be”, this week being decisive for the decision on these measures, which will be announced next Saturday.

Without announcing what they are, the CEO left a certainty: “We will all make an effort so that we can spend Christmas in the best possible conditions, but New Year’s Eve will have all the restrictions. Surely there will be no parties or celebrations.”

Costa made it clear that this “cannot be a normal Christmas,” and the Government is working with specialists to help “families understand the logic of virus transmission and what to avoid as much as possible.” .

“The more Christmas there is on the table, the more dangerous it is because at the table we are without a mask. The more people there are at the table, the more dangerous it is because the greater the risk of contamination, ”he exemplified.

Thus, the executive director’s logic is “the maximum of pedagogy and the minimum of rules.”

“Our collective objective should be that on the 24th and 25th people can move and meet safely, avoiding the risks of contagion as much as possible,” he said, reiterating the effort “to find a solution” for Christmas.

However, and despite the fact that he is going to announce the measures for Christmas on Saturday, Costa left a warning: “it all depends on how the pandemic evolves there.”
