The Government authorizes the works of the Porto Metro for a value of 11 million euros

The Government authorized Metro do Porto to carry out “improvement” works worth more than 11 million euros, a charge divided by the transport company and the Environmental Fund, according to an ordinance published this Friday in the Diário da República (RD) .

These are works pending project, as well as works that will have to wait for the construction of the new lines designed for the Metro do Porto network, the company source told Lusa.

In the published ordinance, signed by the Minister of the Environment and the Secretary of State for the Budget, it is read that the Environmental Fund and Metro do Porto are authorized to share “the positions related to various improvement works.”

Both the State and Metro do Porto will have to pay around 5.6 million euros, which adds up to a global budget of more than 11 million.

Still this year, the Environmental Fund will allocate more than 1.8 million euros to these works and Metro do Porto an equal amount. In 2021, the amount to be assigned by each entity is 3.8 million.

The construction of the Porto Metro headquarters building or the São João Hospital ‘interface’ are some of the listed works.

Also the coverage of the Senhora da Hora station in Matosinhos, or the closure of Poço das Camélias, in the Bolhão station, are other works listed in the publication in the DR, which also refers to the connection of the Galicia station to the hospital Maternal and Child Center. do Norte, work associated with the construction of the future Pink Line that will connect the Casa da Música with the São Bento station.

The ordinance also mentions the construction of a police station for the PSP at Trindade station, a project whose objective is “to create a space dedicated to transport safety,” explained a source from Metro do Porto.

The space located in Guifões, municipality of Matosinhos, where the maintenance of the Metro do Porto vehicle fleet is also part of this package of works, with the improvement of the photovoltaic park and the construction of a planned building.

The more than 11 million euros will also be allocated to the purchase of new workshop equipment and will be allocated to the Metro do Porto ticketing system, as well as to the renovation of the park of validators and vending machines and other interventions related to the modification of ‘layout’ Compositions of Eurotram.

Among other aspects, improvements are centralized, standardized and audited in surveillance, radio communications, obsolescence management and computer and telephone systems, and optimization and updating of processes.

The Environmental Fund will finance these projects “as financial support”, while Metro do Porto describes itself as “the entity responsible for their execution.”

The budget for this package of interventions is part of the Economic and Social Stabilization Program, approved by the Council of Ministers.
