Both Carlos Gonçalves and Isabel Oneto (PS) questioned the Secretary of State about the revision of the contingency plan for the United Kingdom’s exit from the European Union, which Ana Paula Zacarias announced on September 16, asking for details.
The official responded that it is an “update of the plan”, “now revised in view of the current situation,” and stressed the need for companies to prepare, with or without agreement, on customs duties.
“Companies that export fresh produce to the UK to prepare, because it is plausible that there are disruptions here or there in the market, in transport,” he warned, stressing that, with or without an agreement, “there must always be an adaptation […] of Portuguese companies exporting to the United Kingdom ”.
The Secretary of State considered that this “is also a warning to the Government”, given that “customs must be prepared to carry out phytosanitary controls in case of such alterations or if there is no agreement.”
