Pedro Nuno Santos assures that “the economic viability of a third crossing of the Tagus will be studied.” The Minister of Infrastructure and Housing was heard this Tuesday, October 13 in a joint audience with the Minister of State, Economy and Digital Transition, Pedro Siza Vieira, on the strategic vision of the Portugal 2020/2030 Economic Recovery Plan, requested by the CDS-PP .

“We have a feasibility study planned for the third crossing of the Tagus, it is in the plans of the National Investment Plan 2030, but we still do not have the money so I do not want to be here to deceive anyone. The financial viability of the project will be studied, ”said the minister.

Pedro Nuno Santos has no doubt that the third crossing of the Tagus is very important for the structuring of our railway. “With this connection we were able to take three-quarters of an hour to connect from Lisbon or Algarve or from Lisbon to Madrid,” he stressed.

The Minister of Infrastructure and Housing stressed that “the connection between Lisbon and Porto is a priority for us. There are disagreements about the value, as it is very expensive, but we intend to connect Lisbon with Porto in 1h20 ”.

Regarding the cross-border connection between Lisbon and Madrid, the minister considers it “fundamental” that the north and south of Portugal feel connected in the cross-border connection, and the National Railway Plan will be ready in January to define the strategic vision of the railway for the next years. .

Still on the railway, Pedro Nuno Santos recalled that in the first phase the recovery of the rolling stock that was supported was carried out.

“We reactivated a workshop that is running at full speed, we are recovering technical skills within CP and the objective in this purchasing process is not to limit ourselves to buying abroad and to prove through a transparent process that Portugal recovers skills at the industrial capitation level of this sector, which is booming worldwide ”, he stressed.
