The national director of the SEF also stressed that “the humanist matrix based on absolute respect for human rights that defines” this security service and its performance “is not negotiable at all.”

Cristina Gatões argued that the performance of the SEF mission “is decisive for the success of the objectives that govern security and the defense of the rule of law”, but it also assumes “a fundamental role to highlight Portugal in the world context as a safe and open country and a welcome that continues to be absolutely uncompromising in the defense of human dignity and respect for others “.
“Uncompromising and permanent respect for the fundamental rights of all citizens is the condition for professional and community success in general and the guarantee that we are instruments and actors of a democratic rule of law to which we are proud to actively belong and build. On September 30, the Public Ministry charged three SEF inspectors with the aggravated homicide of a Ukrainian citizen at the facilities of the Equivalent Space Temporary Installation Center (EECIT) at Lisbon airport.
The three inspectors, Bruno Sousa, Duarte Laja and Luís Silva, have been under house arrest since their arrest on March 30 and are accused of having killed Ihor Homenyuk after attempting to enter Portugal illegally by air on March 10 . .
After this incident, the Minister of Interior Administration ordered the initiation of a sanctioning file against the director and deputy director of Lisbon Borders, the Coordinator of the Equipped Space at the Airport Temporary Installation Center (EECIT) and the three inspectors of the SE, as well such as the opening of a query to the General Inspection of Internal Administration (IGAI).
Following this investigation, the IGAI initiated eight disciplinary proceedings against elements of the SEF and involved 12 inspectors from this security service in the death of the Ukrainian.
The inauguration ceremony for the 100 new SEF inspectors was chaired by videoconference by the Minister of Internal Administration, Eduardo Cabrita.
Of the 100 new inspectors, 12 took office at the SEF headquarters and represented the rest, who took the oath by videoconference due to the current restrictions in the field of the covid-19 pandemic.
