In a statement, the Ministry of Justice (MJ) said that the director general of the DGPJ made his place available today, taking into account the latest events that involve the curriculum of lawyer José Guerra, a decision that was accepted by the minister.

In the same note, it is said that the MJ is “taking steps to correct the note sent to the Permanent Representation of Portugal in the European Union (REPER), in November 2019, with information on the lawyer José Guerra.”

Francisca Van Dunem also announced her entire willingness to go to parliament as soon as possible after the PSD request to clarify news that says that the Government has given false information to justify the election of José Guerra as European prosecutor.

Several media reported that, in a letter sent to the European Union (EU), the Portuguese executive presented false information about the government’s favorite magistrate for the European prosecutor, José Guerra – after his appointment by the Superior Council of the Public Ministry – After a committee of experts, Ana Carla Almeida was considered the best candidate for the position.

In the letter, José Guerra is identified as “deputy attorney”, a category that he does not have, because he is only a prosecutor and because he participated “in the investigative and accusatory leadership” in the UGT process, which is not true either, because he was the magistrate chosen by the MP to dictate sentence and not the accusation.

After the Ministry of Justice assumed these erroneous data as “lapses”, Minister Francisca Van Dunem said, in an interview with RTP on Saturday night, that she could continue in the Government after the controversy, considering that there was a “profound “unfair” blister of a “strictly transparent” situation.
