Interested citizens will receive an SMS / Email from the Institute of Registries and Notaries (IRN) informing them of the delivery of the citizen card to their home (by phone 915 692 970).

If you are not at home at the time of delivery, you must collect your citizen card at the CTT counter to which the delivery notice refers, which is left in the mailbox. However, there is an alternative: “Citizens can use the SIGA service (service provided by CTT) that will allow them to change the place of delivery, at the address of their choice”.

The statement also clarifies that the citizen card “It is activated centrally by the Justice services within 48 hours after delivery, and from that moment it is valid for all identification purposes”.

CTT has a distribution network of around five thousand postmen and a retail network with around two thousand attendees, in the approximately 550 CTT stores throughout the country.

The data provided by Francisca Van Dunem indicates that, from January 1 to September, 1.6 million citizen cards were requested and that 1.2 million were made in person at the counters.

Of these, 54 thousand were requested in the Espaço Cidadão, which from now on are authorized to deliver them, 118 thousand were online renewals and 166 renewed the card responding to an SMS.

The health rules for the covid-19 pandemic caused the number of people who attended the IRN to be cut in half, leaving only 1,100 to work in person, circumstances that had implications in the speed of responses.
