The Minister of Territorial Cohesion reiterates that it is necessary to take advantage of the Beja airport, but rules out the possibility that this air base could replace the construction of the new airport in the Lisbon region. In an interview with “Antena1 and“ Jornal de Negócios ”, Ana Abrunhosa also agrees that there is a rail connection with all the district capitals, as provided for in the economic recovery plan prepared by António Costa e Silva.

“The country cannot have equipment like the Beja airport without valuing it. I do not agree that a national airport can be replaced. What we need is to have a good national airport. Therefore, Beja will never cease to be regional and does not lose importance for it. We are talking about an extraordinary region, with extraordinary potential, in which this infrastructure is not fully exploited, as the Alentejo was promised for years ”, says the minister.

The minister also reveals, in the same interview with the radio and the economic newspaper, that the Government has increased the allocation for projects of products and services to combat Covid-19 by five, having approved 637 projects corresponding to 174 million euros – en that is to say, a sum five times higher than that initially expected.

Ana Abrunhosa also spoke out about discounts in ex-SCUT in the interior of the country, ruling out advancing a date to advance, after having said in parliament what measure would come into effect in the third quarter of this year. “It is being finalized and will be communicated in due time,” she guarantees.
